Trail 5

  • Trail 5 is one of the most beautiful and well-maintained hiking trails in Islamabad, offering a blend of adventure, nature, and tranquility in the Margalla Hills National Park. Starting near Sector F-5, this moderate to difficult trail extends for about 6–7 kilometers, making it one of the longer and more diverse hiking routes in the city. It is a favorite among nature lovers, photographers, and fitness enthusiasts due to its lush green surroundings, shaded paths, and refreshing natural streams. Compared to the steeper Trail 3, Trail 5 offers a gentler incline, making it ideal for both beginners and experienced hikers.
  • The trail begins with a gradual ascent through dense forests, where hikers can enjoy the chirping of birds, fresh mountain air, and occasional sightings of wildlife such as monkeys, foxes, and exotic bird species. One of the key highlights of Trail 5 is its small natural streams and waterfalls, where hikers can take a break, cool off, and enjoy the serene atmosphere. Unlike other trails, Trail 5 offers multiple route variations, including a direct climb to Pir Sohawa or a link to Trail 3 for a more extended hike.
  • As the trail progresses, it becomes more challenging with steeper inclines, but the breathtaking panoramic views of Islamabad and the surrounding hills make it a rewarding experience. Shaded rest stops and benches along the way provide hikers with spots to relax and take in the scenic beauty of the Margalla Hills. At the top, trekkers can reach Pir Sohawa, where they can enjoy a meal or refreshments at restaurants like Monal and La Montana, offering unparalleled views of the capital city.
  • Trail 5 is well-marked and relatively safe, but hikers are advised to carry sufficient water, wear proper hiking shoes, and start early in the morning to avoid the afternoon heat. Since the trail is less crowded than Trail 3, it provides a more peaceful and immersive experience in nature. Whether you’re looking for a challenging trek, a casual nature walk, or a scenic escape from urban life, Trail 5 remains one of the best hiking destinations in Islamabad, attracting both locals and tourists throughout the year.
